Faversham This Week: History, Theatre and a Summer of Orchard Fun
06 July 2026 · Faversham.info
From a Silver employer award for the town council to a summer packed with theatre, markets and orchard days out, here's what's been happening in Faversham and what's ahead.
There's plenty to celebrate this week. Faversham Town Council received its Silver Employer Recognition Scheme Award on Wednesday 1 July, a welcome recognition for the team who keep so much of local life ticking along. It's the kind of quiet good news that's easy to miss, so worth a mention.
History lovers will enjoy Brian Philp's recollections of the 1965 dig at Faversham Abbey and the Roman villa, shared with The Faversham Society. Marking the 60th anniversary of that excavation, Philp, who led the work, revisited the site and reflected on what the digs revealed about the astonishing scale of the Abbey. It's a lovely reminder of the layers of history beneath our feet.
And if you're already planning well ahead, note that Faversham Open Gardens is set to return on 3 July 2026, one to pencil in for next summer when gardens across the town open their gates.
On the events front, this week opens with Changeling Theatre's Much Ado About Nothing at The Old Brewery Store at Shepherd Neame Brewery on Tuesday 7 July, bringing outdoor theatre to a fine setting. Music fans have Memphis May Fire at The Mill & Mine on Thursday 9 July, while The Limes hosts Friday Night Live with The Beard Conspiracy on Friday 10 July. Saturday 11 July brings the ever-popular Faversham Charter Market to Market Place, always a good excuse for a wander.
Later in the month, Brogdale Farm hosts the National Cherry & Soft Fruit Show on Saturday 18 July, and the following day Artists in the Woods takes over the atmospheric Oare Gunpowder Works on Sunday 19 July. The Limes welcomes Georgie Taylor for Friday Night Live on 24 July, and Faversham Pride lands at West Faversham Community Centre on Saturday 25 July, a real highlight of the summer calendar.
August keeps the momentum going. The Faversham Safari runs across town on Sunday 2 August, followed by Family Jam-boree Days at Front Brents Green on Tuesday 4 August. Brogdale, in particular, has a busy month: Wild Classroom outdoor cooking on 6 August, the Plum Fair on Sunday 9 August, kids' juicing on 11 August, an orchard orienteering workshop on 14 August, and Plum Weekend on Saturday 15 August. Whether you fancy theatre, live music, a market mooch or a family day among the orchards, there's something for everyone in Faversham this summer.
